ELY 'Canoe the Wye' Challenge 2026

My Story
Before Emma passed away, I was quite active, going to the gym & swimming to keep myself relatively fit. After Emma died it took a long time to get back into fitness and I joined Zumba a new approach to keeping fit. Over the last 13 years I have been truly humbled at our supporters who have gone over and above fundraising for ELY by way of undertaking vigorous challenges. So, it's now time for me to step out of my comfort zone!
This is why I am taking part in the Canoe the Wye Challenge on the 7th June. I will be paddling 8 miles along the River Wye and then hiking a further 6 miles up the Symonds Yat Gorge as part of a team of 12 supporters taking on this challenge together.
The biggest fear is being on the water because I have never been on the water or in a canoe! Stepping off the platform into the canoe makes me anxious just writing this! I've no choice now, I'm signed up and aiming to raise £2000 to help fund at least half the funeral costs that ELY donates to families when their child is killed in a road traffic collision. We didn't have £5000 to cover Emma's funeral, this is why stepping out of my comfort zone will be emotional and exhilarating as it will be in memory of my dear Emma.
No doubt she would say I am mad, but a day of madness will hopefully reep rewards raising £2000 to honour Emma's memory and ensure her legacy continues by supporting families through unimaginable loss and promoting road safety through young driver education.
I've committed to doing my part to help the team reach our overall target of £6,000 and any support you can give would mean a huge amount.
If you are able to donate, no matter the amount, it will help make a real difference and support the work of the fund in Emma's name.
Thank you so much for your support.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this page with others would also be hugely appreciated.
